Seejay: The optimised apps run SETI quicker and you get more credits maybe 40% more for the same amount of time.

@EVE use the automatic installer, it will use the right one & you won't have top worry about SSEx

@eve:robocopter: Check out your CPU attributes simply by clicking on the "Messages" tab on your Boinc client. On around the 5th.line you should see all the necessary. In your case, I'd go for " SSE Intel P4 " on lunatics.at

@jorick: Alas, poor Jorick, I knew him, Horatio! Easier to download the zip of the files for your machine(s), unzip and read the Instructions.txt file therein. It's a very simple copy/paste operation!

Is there a project that won't heat laptops up so much? My laptop keeps shutting down because it gets too hot when running Boinc. If Boinc isn't running, it does fine.

@jorick: Just go into your BOINC Manager preferences and set it to use less than 100% of processor time.

@roblilley: I was hoping to not have to do that. It would be nice if I could run it 100% of the time so that I can get max credit, but also have it run cooler.

@gonzalo - the Earth is big and complicated and the model has to work with all the data and regional variations at once which are unique to the model. A model cannot be divided up any other way without huge data transfers between contributors.
