Yippee! 200 Kilocredits! I want to thank Al Einstein for introducing gravity waves and ultimately me to the BOINC projects!

Got a ? for the community - If I have a 500G hard drive, I partion it say 5 times, and each partition I install an OS on it, will they all run at the same time? Can I crunch faster/ better?

To: Sapper21A; You can install 5 different OS's on one machine, but you will not be able to run them all at the same time. Each time you boot your machine you will need to select which OS you want running for that "Session".

sapper: if you have 5 cars, will you be able to drive them @ the same time? Even if you could, and the cars have a max. speed of 100 km/h, will you then be travelling @ 500 km/h?

and raid-arrays have to do with storage, not with calculating power. if you have a really fast raid array, you might be able to shave a few milliseconds of each workunit.

Anyone know what's happening with LHC@Home? Migration to London is supposed to be underway but no update since Friday and no access to message boards.

They're probably wishing by now they'd never taken on the LHC project. Seriously, might be as well to set BOINC not to request LHC work for a while, as otherwise they're likely to be snowed under with work requests when the project comes back up.

Lol! It will happen - eventually. It's not the best project for keeping people up to date.

Sapper21A: You can run multiple OSs on one machine at the same time using virtualisation software. However, overall your workunit time will be higher as you still only have the same amount of MIPs except they also have to run 5 OSs and virtualisation

@TerryG: It appears that Alex and Neasan are having some difficulty with the DNS adjustment. Everything seemed fine until Friday, which is when the DNS changes were to be made.

@Puddle Jumper: I've seen Windows running in a Mac window and Windows running in a Linux window. It's possible to run Windows in a Linux window in a Mac window in a ... but your box would be running dog slow!

Jorick; Yes what you are talking about is true but only by the use of Virtual Machines. Somtimes when you are in other OS you still cant get away from using windows, I hate MS.

@Jorrick: I've now moved to a dual boot system (XP/Debian Linux) The problem is that XP crunches units much faster than Linux. Lots of stuff in the forums confirms this. Mr Gates has a stranglehold on userland, so stuff written for them works on Win.

Behave dear BOINCstats'ers. Please do not start any childish "this-OS-is-the-best-war" in this forum.
