@Astroboy: RAID6 is supposed to be more reliable than RAID5 in large enterprise sites. Operative word is "supposed". If it's over 23 TB, then it gets real weird, and failures can really mess you up.

Astroboy: raid6 is the only raid technology that is suited to very large multiterrabyte mission critical arrays (einstien has several 24 drive units). All lesser raids either loose redundancy after a single drive failure, a raid6 array can loose 2.

Einstiens problem is that they apparently bought from a doggy vendor. After the last outage they were provided backplains for the arrays that were supposed to've fixed the problem that was leading to dropped drives. Apparently it didn't work.

@Dan: Unless you use on-line spares. They can save you, sometimes. All my 4 drive servers have 3 drives in RAID5, and an on-line spare.

Since E@H was shutdown a few weeks ago, some clients have not resumed crunching and many WUs, even from 7th still not completed. Some clients also inactive since 23rd, should again be normal next week.

Seti@Home (Not the Beta, AFAIK) has Result Upload issues. It's known on the forums there.

It's prob a discussion for the forum, but even with online spare, rebuild times can take forever. So having a spare isn't always the answer.

@computerguy: Depends. You can set the rebuild through the utility. 99% of the controllers have it set to low by default. That usually is just above idle time.

@d4rkm47r Have you tried to run more than 1 project? Don´t have to worry that much of downtime then
