Seems to be a DNS problem, the server can't resolve most domain names.

Well, I'm the IT manager at my company, and I don't see BOINC as a security risk, I see it like donating money to charity. But of course, since we nerds are too poor to donate money, clock cycles will have to do.

Why is the combined hosts count less then the SETI host count

If only more organisations, like universities, ran BOINC, it's easy enough to do, imagine all the crunching that could be done with the thousands of idle CPUs

I run BOINC in a University enviroment on about 200 computers. No security issues at all and we have an entire staff that is forever scanning for issues, etc.

I'm also the IT manager at my company, but higher management has a problem with the bandwidth needed. They have calculated that running BOINC costs them a lot of money in bandwidth, and they refuse to run BOINC on the systems. My predecessor also told them that BOINC opens up the network for virus attacks.

Yes, in fact I too feel that running BPONC is not safe, as there's no guarantee what the programs will do on your machine. This problem does also exist with other SW, but BOINC can potentually download a file, that will cause the worst.

Nevertheless, I'm runnning BOINC since it exists. . .

@RHC: but there's risk in downloading any software, boinc has measures to prevent someone distributing a virus, so it only depends if you trust the project to only use your computer to science (or what they say they'll use it for)
