(1) Is it possible to direct BOINC to use a specific web browser? It automatically opens up Netscape Navigator and I want to use Firefox.

(2) BOINC manager does not consistently open, like when I right click on the little icon on the bottom right corner of the desktop. CTRL-ALT-DEL sows me under processess that boincmg.exe is running (two copies currently, in fact) but I can't see the window to do anything.

(3) Under processes, when I choose to end the boincmgr.exe process using the Windows Task Manager, it ignores my click.

(4) I started running the RieselSieve project directly through the initial set-up of BOINC. Now I have added two other projects through BOINCstats/BAM, but they aren't running on BOINC itself, even if I click on update and sync up BOINC with my BAM preferences. Furthermore, each of the three projects each shows 100% resource share when I look at "My projects" in the project list.

It uses the default browser you have on your computer, you should set Firefox as the default.

There should be boinc.exe and boincmgr.exe, if there are two instances of one of those, there is a problem...

(3) Under processes, when I choose to end the boincmgr.exe process using the Windows Task Manager, it ignores my click.

You mean the process doesn't get killed? Strange... Anyway why were you trying to kill boincmgr?

Did you attach your computer to BAM?

Go to the Host list, click on your host, and select the Attach checkbox for the projects you want. Then click update, and wait for your computer to communicate with BAM, or select "Synchronize with BOINCStats BAM" from the Tools menu on the manager.

Okay I managed to get some things straightened out.

I was trying to kill boincmgr.exe because it was locked up/not responding. A reboot cleared this up. I did figure out how to attach to a project. It was a little confusing because the BOINC Manager window has both buttons for "Commands" (where I would expect to tell the computer to execute some task) and also menu choices that are IMO poorly named. The act of connecting to a project is a command and should ideally be under "Commands." Unfortunately it is under "Advanced," which I took to be a menu for preferences at first. But eventually I stumbled on to it.

Thanks.

If Attach project is on Advanced menu, it means you're attached to an account manager like BAM. If you're on BAM, you shouldn't attach from the manager, you should add the project to your host here.

It's on advanced menu because it's there only to attach to a project not supported by BAM (or other AMS).
