Hi all: I have been running boinc since August 11, 2004, and before that SETI Classic since March 24, 1999. I am interested in finding out, on exactly what date the first boinc project was launched, and, which project was the first! Any Ideas or Comments - Please let me know. Thanx Mark Reiss

The first unoffcial project was Astropulse (BOINC) Alpha. The team over at Berkeley was testing Astropulse applications and the BOINC core client itself. And of course the first official project that was utilizing BOINC was SETI@Home.

As for the date: I think that Astropulse Alpha started some time in the beginning of 2004.

You might want to search the BOINC dev forums. (http://boinc.berkeley.edu/dev)

There was a thread on this in the not too distant past.

I think I read that Predictor@Home was the first stable BOINC project before SETI@home. I can remember a thread about that at the BOINC Message Boards.

Wrong, first came Seti, then CPDN, afterwards Predictor.

I joined Predictor asap once it was open for the public (i.e. stable). Now I left because they don't deserve any decent crunchers, they just behave like crap.

According to this post - Predictor was the first.

- Initially the BOINC project started in February 2002
- First release 10th April 2002
- First BOINC based project was Predictor@home launched on 9th June 2004

OK, maybe you're right, but they probably were a closed beta until Jan. 2005.
I know, because I joined asap once account creation was open.

I can't tell you the exact date any more, because Mr. Braunhemd (the sys-admin over there) just deleted my account because I dared not to shut up about censorship and illegal hackers, I dared to have a different opinion to his own, and such defection can't be tolerated.

Wrong, it was uppercase. BOO-YAH!

Been here since version 0.01 and STILL KICKIN!

Yup, I have the tarballs and zips from 0.01 all the way through 5.9.4 saved on my PC.

All the first project and project application did was transfer a file to the computer, the boinc program would convert all the text in the file to uppercase, then send the file back.

Didn't really work well until 0.07 with me. Of course, this was back when they were hosting it on Sourceforge, and before World Community Grid SUED DAVID ANDERSON! (one of the reasons I do not participate in WCG or primarily scripps run projects)

I think it was actually UD that sued. I also stayed away from WCG for some time because they still used the UD client.
