I used the Host List page to go to one of my hosts that is my laptop, clicked Edit Projects, and turned on "Do not use Intel GPU" for Einstein@Home, since the Intel driver I have on that machine keeps freezing during Einstein as a known problem. Instead of dealing with rolling back the driver, or hunting down a new one, I just wanted to tell Einstein to NOT use the GPU on that host. So, I checked it. I hoped that would work. It didn't. Was it supposed to?

In general, there is no way to turn off a particular GPU on a particular host via a project's website; at least, none that I could find. I can either tell the project to never use GPU on any host, or I can tell it to not use it for a particular machine profile (say, 'home') and put my laptop into that profile, but then all projects would be using "home" settings for that host. I didn't find any other way to tell a project not to do this or that only for a particular host (is there?). So, I was happy when I saw that granularity in BAM!. But, as soon as Einstein was re-added to my laptop, soon it went to the sleep of death. I had to remove it from the host, again.

So, are those supposed to work through some magic of XML files pushed from BAM! to the host? If so, it seems it doesn't, at least for Einstein & Intel GPU combination.

The CPU/GPU settings should work but not all projects respect the setting (properly). Just like some projects that send you a weeks worth of work when you request 1 second.

As for Einstein, I have it set to "do not use CPU" and that works.
