Ziggie: Try setting it to more then .5 and you stand less chance of running out. try 3-4. Most outages in SAH seem to clear in less than 4 days..IMHO.

Yes, but if you run multiple projects (especially Einstein) setting to more than 0.5 is an invitation to having your WU expire. The Manager still downloads too much work, grabbing the full amount for each project, instead of factoring in the resource share for each one.

@grenadire, Yes thats true...It's an Issue Boinc Need to address. They need to take into account. Boinc just sets the cache for eash projest. It does not take into acount the fact you might do more than one.

@Dorsai, This is being addressed in the developmental version of Boinc. The dev's do listen to the users about some things.

When do you think developmental version will become stable version?

I think it's Einstein's problem - they should increase the expiry to 2-4 weeks. Compare the size of WUs to SETI and they give 2 weeks.

It would be convenient if Einstein had longer expire times, but apparently there are science and resource issues that require the short turn time. Their advice is that if you can't keep up, to run a different project. But if the BOINC Core Client handled resource shares better, it would be much less of an issue anyway.

It seems like the projects can to a certain degree change the expiry date of their work. LHC used to have shorter turnaround times, now they have the same as Seti which puts less pressure on the userbase IMHO of course....

@pico: it's for you to know how many days it'll take, with your rac, to leap over the person ahead of you in rankings. It's cosmetic but hella motivating to watch.

Is SETI always this screwed up? I only started running it a week ago, and it doesn't seem like it's been up for one full day since I started running it...

Most of the time SETI is running fine, but they are forced to implement a software firewall which is giving them problems (they are normaly behind a hardware firewall).

Ah ha..! So.. its all rsbriggs fault..! ;-)

And it looks like they are being forced to leave it (the Software FW) FUBARing the servers over the weekends. Then it will take 2 days for the backlog to clear. then next weekend will arrive, and it will all SNAFU again. Ho hum. Thats wat a WU cache is for. :-)
