I wonder why LHC host count does not increase? There must be some prob, either with BOINCstats, or with their XML export

Grenadier, thanks for the input

I want to merge my seti and einstein stats. Both projects are runing long time. I have change the email adress, so that both projects has the same. But I couldn't see, have I can line up the CPID my self. Is there a way to do this?

Make sure all projects have the same name and same e-mail address, and within a couple of days the stats sites will figure it out automatically.

You should do like Mattus said AND run both projects on the same machine for a few days, then Boinc will figure out that you're actually the same user...

Odd, SETI hasn't done a XML export since 4 days now

BOINCStats is showing my LHC machine as "hidden" while my LHC preferences allows my PCs to be shown onsite.. is this a LHC stats export bug they need to know about?

Seti is down again. Don't they have a decent power supply over in the states? Or what's it this time? Scheiße!

Just tried Boinc: Same there, down, and Classic as well.

@FalcoFly: Now they've done it, and they're down. Why are you so greedy for credits

From Seti: Around 18:00 UTC we had another unexpected lab-wide power outage. Systems were able to shut down more gracefully than last time, but we are leaving many services off as we survey the damage. The cause of these outages is still unknown.

Can't catch a break continues for those poor guys...

@Sanger: SETI, unlike most people think apparently, is housed in a building on the Berkeley Campus that is over 20 years old. The power systems tend to be unreliable in the short-term and given UC's budget crunch, it is to be expected.

@ponbiki: 20 years seems quite new to me. 200 would be something different, but if anyone build electric crap in1984, he should rot in jail for his deceit.

Knowing how the UC system works, they built to the specification of the past and not to the expected requirements of 20 years in the future.

@DK: I'll expect some difficulties in the low-voltage area, put not such old-fashioned stuff as ordinary power-supply. And if you run something, that has to be up 24/7 I'll expect a diesel in the basement, to replace the batteries after several seconds.

@sanger: There are backup generators on the campus and normally under most buildings but once again, I must remind you that this building is part of the UC Campus and they really don't have a say what goes into the building. They must clear it with Facilities and normally special requests like a sole backup generator for one project won't go over well.

@Sanger: That "diesel in the basement" is a requirement in a few places - hospitals, prisons anywhere life-or-death hangs on the availability of electric power. Some members complaints notwithstanding, SETI is not life-or-death. That kind of setup isn't cheap to buy, install or maintain. While downtime/crashing is a headache for users, it's a migraine for the sysops. Having said that, even with the latest round of outages, the uptime beats the downtime 100-to-1.

@all: Maybe a reminder, but there are other BOINC projects. While Seti gets most of my cycles, I keep another project going just in case of something like this.

@jim: I agree but some people, like myself, just find the idea of hunting aliens to be more exciting. Any delay gives me a chance to let my computer rest and cut down on electricity bills.

How can hunting for aliens (something that is accepted as a needle in a hay stack search) compare to doing something useful like determining how our environmental actions today will effect the planet, or help us better understand the proteins that allow life to exist?? I'm not saying SETI isn't a good project, just that I don't see how it's so much more exciting...

@Lizz: Ideally finding the cure for Cancer or learning how to make a particle accelerator better is more beneficial today but compare it to the simple fact of finding ET. Can the deep psychological and sociological impacts of that discovery really not be exciting?
