I don't think there is any such thing for LHC alpha as it was/is by invitation only

while people of course have the choice to participate in any project they like, there are decently objective differences in how much each project benefits humanity- which should be considered when attaching to any given project, i think.

Some people help what feels close to them, i. e. Cancer + Rosetta, or Fame+SETI etc. Only you can make that decision. Whether its informed or not isnt anyone elses problem. Xtremlab FTW btw =D

@jrenkar: I've heard it twice now, but I can't understand why LHC Alpha can be joined only by invitation. Does this mean only power crunchers/teams with ca. 5000 credits per week are invited to join?

LHC Alpha is just that - an alpha test. They've got the number of testers they need, so they don't allow more account creation.

You are kinda right as most of the Alpha testers were original Beta testers and the few newer testers they added didn't just crunch a bunch they were also very helpful in the message boards and give good feedback

Thanx jrenkar. Too bad. I'm mostly into LHC and actually have the best credits in it. I hope they will sometime change to another state that I can join them ;-)

They are supposed to port some new applications from GEANT4 and other projects so that may happen (relatively) soon

LHC is always popular because of the effects of the results we return. Thats why work goes bloody fast

Compared to SETI and Einstein, LHC will see the effects of our crunching within 18/24 months. SETI may never see any results, akin to Rosetta/Predictor (so many energy minima in proteins it requires masses of computing)
