Please refer to "Why do you participate in BOINC?" Poll before you answer. I'm among those who answered. . . "for the credits".

If the alpha projects award no Credits who will take part then?

@O&O: So why do you crunch for alpha state projects?

My team does it for the science, not the credits, we could get 0 credits from every project and we'd still do it.

The idea of BOINC is to help SCIENCE. For project developers stringent Alpha testing is better than a flawed active release. Giving it the alpha title allows us to distinguish between these projects and decide which SCIENCE we want to help.

@wizzszz: (1/2)I crunched WU for more than 15 projects for 3 reasons: 1) To Keep my machines crunchablity at their utmost, 2) To find what the projects are offering me back in return (credits) for my volunteering, . . .

. . . (2/2) 3) compare the stats and find out which project is the best for my machines. . . And if I'm to share my experience. . . I would say: "A tangled heap of unpleasantness. . . Good grief, What-a-Mess!"

. . . and do you know what projects I'm still crunching for. . . PrimeGrid & Rosetta. . . because they grant me 100% of my cliamed credits!

@borandi: When the Alpha projects WUs don't even get completed and error out after 4 hours, isn't it a waste of valuable computing hours which could be used to crunch successful WUs for other Science projects?

Maybe a waste of time for that one unit, but without finding the errors in the beta software, we never would have the valueable science apps!

If people didnt crunch for Alpha projects, and a flawed release was the result, any computation done then wouldnt get any results because of the flaws. Like I said, projects are called ALPHA so you know there is a risk.

@O&O: So you have tried 15 Projects, and found 2 that fit your needs. . . Where is the problem? I crunch for 13 projects, and had broken WUs only because of erraneous pausing!

O&O: And another statement: Crunching for alpha state projects IS valueable science work. . . Maybe you do this for the wrong reasons. . .

@matt: it's not a case of one WU, but for ALL the WUs being released. It's been there for months now and the team behind that project seem they do not care. Why I'm bothered, the rank 4 on my analysis and grant my machine 86% of the cliamed credits.

@borandi: which brings us back to my original question. Will user still be crunching WUs for Alpha projects if there were no credits?

I Krunch ALPHA and I helpt the projects find bugs in the apps before public release (for fun). Have over 20 running now.

@wizzszz: The problem is that you should be granted credit for every single crunching second! With errors or not, this is the least they can do in return to your volunteering, shouldn't they?

. . . otherwise, they are better stop giving credits from the begining or . . . off!
