Forum posts: 66Member of team: XtremeSystemsMy personal backgroundI started distributed computing in my teens by running Prime95 on a Dell Poweredge 6400 Quad P3 Xeon in my parents attic. With computers as a hobby, I ran Prime95 on my machines just as a cool use of computing power. I later found BOINC and realized that we can use computing power to help science research in addition to pure mathematics. The ancient Dell PE 6400 was retired more than a decade ago, and I'm on the 5th platform for my desktop. I've previously had AMD K7, K8, K10, and Intel X99 platforms, and now crunch projects on my TRX40 desktop with 3960X and RTX 3070. During winter I wake my servers to crunch when the waste heat warms the house and hibernate them in the spring when electricity gets more expensive. Summer will see only my TRX40 & X99 desktops as crunchers.
