After months of "driving with the hand-brake on", I have decided to install a 64-bit version of Linux (ubuntu 10.04) as a dual boot alongside Vista home premium 32-bit via the Wubi installer. If all goes well, I will upgrade to 10.10 stand alone with a partition. However, I am having a problem getting the Nvidia drivers to install, rendering my GPUs useless. Tried the ubuntu forums a few days ago with no response, and a forum search there was unsuccessful. Any help would be appreciated.

I haven't installed NVIDIA Drivers in awhile but this used to work for me on the Ubuntu 9.x Series: you can try it & see if it works for you or not

Download the drivers from the NVIDIA website into a directory (for instance /tmp)

* Press ctrl-alt-F1, a text login screen will appear

* login as root (sudo -i > enter > password > enter)

* type "sudo /etc/init.d/gdm stop" to stop the X server

* type "sh /tmp/NVIDIA-Linux-x86_64-180.06-pkg2.run" <<< Put your Driver name here to install the driver from the directory where you had downloaded it to

* answer yes to all questions from the installer

* type "sudo /etc/init.d/gdm start" to start the X Server again

Thanks for the advice, Steve. I'll give it a go tomorrow evening (our time) and let you know how I made out. Temporarily reverted to Windows and hate to abort work except as a last resort.
