Hello -

I need to change the name of one of my computers running BOINC (it's function during its day job has changed.)

What are the BOINC consequences of doing this? WIll BOINC still be able to recognize this machine? Do I need to do anything in order to keep BOINC running smoothly?

Thanks in advance for any help. I could not find information on this either here or on the BOINC web site.

BOINC will still recognize your Computer & continue to run okay but as a different one since it will have a different Name. I doubt you will be able to Merge the 2 different named Computers either but no Credit will be lost but just split between the 2 Computers ...

BOINC will not have any problems, and I'm fairly certain that your host stats will just update to the new name since BOINC assigns a host CPID to your computer, and that won't change.

I've done this LOTS of times. Paldin is correct, you should have no major problems, and BOINC and the projects WILL see this host as a new and different machine because of the new name.

However, as long as there is no overlap in time that the "two" hosts are in existence (that is ... there is NO time during which both hosts report to the projects at the same time, or your "old" host doesn't report AFTER the new host is in existence) you SHOULD have no problems merging the two computers -- as long as computer specs or OS hasn't changed.

That works some times & sometimes it doesn't.
