I seem to be having some issues with using BOINC AND Games sucsesfully with two different GPU's.

I have the MSI K9A2 Platinum MB and MAD Phenom II X4 965 BE CPU. Im using my MSI GTS250 1G OC as my Main GPU (for BOINC, gaming etc) and I have a ASUS GeForce 8500GT 512MB GPU laying around. I installed the 8500GT with the GTS250 on the same MB. Connected a dummy plug to the 8500GT. After struggeling to get the 8500GT to run with BOINC (it said GPU1 (not used) ),I had to add a file into the BOINC data folder to enable it to use BOTH GPU's and not just the GTS250.

Now I have a new problem. since instaling the 8500GT, my games were performing very poorly. So I used the MSI Afterburner app and saw that the GTS250 was now only being used about 50%. While it was being used 99% before installing the 8500GT. The 8500GT is sitting on 0% usage all the time.

I dont even know what to search for on goolge, not SO many people are running BOINC and games in this configuration i think.

I really dont want to take the 8500GT out and loose that extra few Gflops of power. And if I can get my GTS250 to work as before and STILL use the 8500GT in my MB for BOINC purposes, I will be replacing it with a GT240 mabe, and even try and get two ATi's for some Stream processing (if that combo is compatable even).

Can anyone please help me with this, or at least point me in the right direction?

Thanks in advance.

No replies yet... And I STILL have this issue.

Is there someone out there that uses two different GPU's on the same Motherbaord and whom also plays games on the same machine?

They will not go SLI as they are too far apart on card type, so Windows will use whichever card is attatched to the screen for games, the other will not be used for games. Provided its configured in BOINC with the use all gpus statement inside cc_config, the second one will happily crunch away on BOINC as well as the Primary card.

If you are Primarily a Gamer, attatch the more powerful card to the screen and that one will be available for games as well as BOINC, the other one will be for BOINC only (given correct configuration of the second for BOINC use)

When you run what you have, and are Gaming, are you stopping BOINC activity explicitly when Gaming, or are BOINC apps running in the background?
