OK, so here's what I'm trying to do. I have two processors. I would like to run 2 projects all the time, one on each processor. Currently I'm attached to two projects but when I do this BOINC still downloads 2 WU for one project and 1 for the other, and rotate between the 3. I'm thinking it'll be something to do with the "switch between projects every X minutes" setting, but I'm not sure if I should set it very high or to 0 to get it to NOT switch between projects.

In case you're wondering, I'm trying to run QCN 100% of the time on one processor, while running rosetta on the other for some numbercrunching.

So, has anyone else tried this? have any suggestions?

Do the two projects have the same resource share?

What's your BOINC version?

Doesn't QCN have "non-CPU-intensive tasks"? That would mean that you have three tasks running on two cores at the same time.

it does indeed have the "non cpu intensive" flag set. Restarted the client and it seemed to notice this and start running all 3 WU at the same time on the two processors.

thanks for the help

All laptops have an accelerometer to detect excessive vibrations that could damage the hard drive. It's only desktops that require extensions to join QCN

Most newer laptops have an accelerometer built in somewhere. The QCN website lists:
If you have a Macintosh laptop manufactured after January 1, 2005 then you probably do.

If you have a Thinkpad manufactured after 2003, then you probably do.

If you have a HP laptop was produced since January 2007, you may have a 3D Motion Data Protection System.

If you have an Acer laptop produced since January 2007, you may have a Gravisense accelerometer on board.

The best way I can think of to see if you have one and if it's compatible, is to download their QCNLive program and see if it finds any sensors to work with.

Ok, so my lappy doesn't have a sensor. And it's not that old (purchased early 2008).

I found two units online, if yours has a biometric reader then it has an accelerometer built in too, if not then no.

@pongley: Ah, didn't know that! Ok, have no biometric reader - so no accelerometer either. *sob sob*
I guess one can't have all...

@Frank: So true... *ROFL*
And for throwing I'd take a netbook, it's more lightweight.

You can buy a sensor from the makers, see here for more information (in German).

It is also said somewhere on QCN site (I don't remember where exactly I read it) that not all manufactures "open" their accelerometers code so other apps can access them... most laptops have it on some way, for instance to control hdd power in case of hard shaking, but QCN are not able to use them ... yet

BTW, I bought an sensor from the merks, and is working fine
