In hopes of grabbing a fair amount of the latest batch of LHC WUs, I set my cache to 7 days in BS preferences, saved prefs to projects, synced w/ BAM! and hit update, thinking a bunch more should be coming in, right? Wrong. In the log I had a message saying "(not requesting new work or reporting completed tasks)," and there were still plenty of WUs available, according to LHC. I tried updating a few more times and double-checking that the prefs did get saved across projects. But no dice. The amount of work in my cache at the moment seems to be about a day's worth, so I'm guessing somewhere there's a pref still set differently? Or what? I have no idea where else to look - any help appreciated.

Forgive if this is a repeat question - couldn't find an answer anywhere in the forums.

How many other projects are you attached to? And what is their allocation vs. LHC? Finally, perhaps the other projects have greater debt?

Nine others. Allocation all equal, but all set to no new tasks. I even tried suspending all except LHC to see if that would make a difference, but no luck. Is debt still an issue if others are suspended?

Also, how do I check LTD?

I tried BOINCview but couldn't get it to work. In any case, I think it must be a LTD issue.

BOINC will not download more work then it thinks it can compleat before the deadline. Also, most of the time, setting the cache to 3-4 days is the optimal amount to get the most work. Just because you set the connect time to 10 days dosen't meen you will get 10 days worth of work.

I had a similar problem once - dont remember the project though...

I set the work cache higher than the projects deadline, so BOINC refused to download ANYTHING... (Well, whats the deadline for LHC? :? )

Afaik, Debt is NO issue when the other projects are suspended!

BOINCView is a great tool. Why dont you get it to run?

Thanks for the responses - all that is helpful. I'll adjust my cache lower. Deadlines for LHC are about 7 days on the WUs I have right now, so maybe having the cache at 7 days caused the conflict.

BOINCview installed fine, and it saw one host (the PC it was installed on), but honestly I just couldn't figure out what the heck to do with it. Is there a user manual somewhere? Also, can it see non-Windows hosts (I have a Mac running BOINC as well)?

Or is there somewhere online you can see debt other than BOINCview?

You were right - as soon as I set the cache to 4 days and suspended all but LHC, the scheduler started asking for work again (none available right now). So I think that was it. Thanks!

What to do with BOINCView:

I, for example, have 44 projects running. It takes quite some time if I want to update all projects manually with BOINC Manager, with BOINCView, you can update/suspend/reset (and so on) all projects with one mouseclick...

Afaik, it supports managing Computers in a network as well...

It shows my total credits (which BOINC Manager doesnt)...

What I miss in BOINCView are the graphs. So I'm using both BOINC Manager AND BOINCView...

And so am I correct in thinking: (1) that a positive debt means a project is effectively "owed" work, and (2) that if I want to make a project's debt more positive (i.e., make it so that it "owes" less work), then I should keep its resource share as low as possible as often as possible? Or does resource share not affect debt? This whole BOINC debt thing is kind of new to me, so the specifics are still a bit confusing.

Resource share does effect debts. Positive debt means that project should be running (more).

The best thing to do is to set your resource shares how you want them and let BOINC work things out.
