Anyone know if there are any coordinated plans, online or otherwise, to take advantage of the millionth BOINC user registration (which looks to be coming up in the next 30+ days) to attract some nice exposure for/attention to the projects?

Anyone have ideas on how best to spread the word through the media, online and otherwise (i.e., not just to existing BOINC users, which would be essentially worthless)? Playing up the angle might bring some credibility (and interest) among the general public, and it might be a good way to pick up a nice short-term boost in new registrations.

Someone should make a post on Slashdot. That would be a good place to advertise science

See, this is exactly the kind of thing I'm talking about - a relatively easy way to gather some notoriety (and, ideally, scads of new users) for BOINC projects by publicizing the 1,000,000th user milestone. Maybe someone over at Cal already has this in mind - I can't imagine they'd just let it slip by quietly.

I've posted it over in the Berkeley BOINC forum, I hope they react somehow.

Congratz to the developers in berkeley and elsewhere around the globe!

Although now that I think about it, maybe the 1,000,000 number is actually kind of hollow and inflated, since a fair amount of those users have no credit whatsoever. It might be interesting to see what the actual number of credit-bearing users is.

All these users have credit, otherwise they would not be on BOINCstats. Users starting at least 0.000001 credit are counted.

Ah, thanks for the clarification!

I recently read an article in a magazine (It might have been Popular Science or PC magazine) that had a "very" short plug for one of the projects covered through BOINC (might have been rossetta)...however, it didnt mention BOINC or the 1,000,000 signup that was approaching...
