Hi all,

I tried start using BOINC 5.5.6 on a Gentoo Linux and wanted to control it on a remote BOINC client. But all the remote client says is "Bad Password"

Where can I find or set the RPC password on my Linux?

Perhaps all you need it to create remote_hosts.cfg file in BOINC folder and put an IP address(es) that BOINC client should accept (IP of control machine).

Ok, thanks for the advice.

But now another maybe stupid question...:

I'm not quiet clear about the boinc directory. Is it where the binary (boinc_client / boinc_cmd) resides?

The password should be in the file "gui_rpc_auth.cfg" in your BOINC directory. Just edit this with a plain text editor.

Well, found the gui_rpc_auth.cfg in /root. changed the password to something simple for testing and created a remote_hosts.cfg w/ the IP of my Remote..

Same Behavior still... :|

For a testing, you can leave gui_rpc_auth.cfg empty (means no password)

You had the file in /root ?
Make sure BOINC has access to those files (was the file created under root but boinc installed under different user)? I don't know much about Linux, but...

Stupid me...

found the answer in /etc/passwd: the BOINC-User home is /var/lib/boinc
