I’m happy to announce the launch of a new BOINC project: Message@Home. Though this project is still pre-alpha, the developers are not hiding the project. They will open up account creation for a limited number of testers this Tuesday!

Learn more about Message@Home by visiting the Message@Home page here on BOINCstats (link in the menu) or by visiting the projects home page.
Please do not PM, IM or email me for support (they will go unread/ignored). Use the forum for support.

Seems like a good place for all pirates to meet again...

There will only be 50 users to start with but the project should be very interesting since it will be written in Perl.

All are welcome! Aye!

That is not exactly true - the main science application is written in c++, just the main scheduler system is being creating from scratch using Perl. Now the site is running on mixed default BOINC pages, and already created custom pages. I will try to replace more and more pages during the time.

Hello Rytis
Could you brief us on specs of Message@home laptop-server? Just to feed our curiosity.
BTW: This might be the first portable distributed computing project

I think Janus from BURP uses a laptop too, but I'm not sure now.

As for the specs, this is a kind of low specs machine, and the project is just to play up with, as you may already have understood

Fujitsu-Siemens Amilo M7400D
Celeron M 1,3Ghz
256mb RAM (this may be the problem once we are up & running)
Windows Server 2003 SP1
Perl 5.8.7
PHP 5.0.4.4

Thanks for info. Might be useful if I ever think of setting up my own project
For now let's hope your Amilo will be good enough.
