Due to the ongoing growth of the BOINC community it is necessary to upgrade the BOINCstats server to cope with the increased stress on the system.

Therefore I’m going to add 2x 1GB of RAM on Wednesday 27th of April. I’ll begin the upgrade at 12:00GMT, and it will take about 30 minutes. The site will (of course) be down during that time.

OK, I feel kind of stupid. I should've done some research before upgrading the memory. As it turns out, a default Debian installation is limited to 869MB of memory (now that's also stupid) and in order to support more memory, one has to manualy compile a new kernel with support for up to 4GB or 64GB of memory. Now here is where I think: 'wow, Bill did a good Job'.

I installed the modules today, started the server, BIOS found the memory (3G, so I went home (60km), and discovered the memory limit.

I compiled a kernel, but I'm afraid to install it and reboot the server. If it's not working OK, down goes BOINCstats.

I have to think this over and read some manuals before proceding.

Problem solved. Installed a new kernel, kept my fingers crossed and rebooted once again. All 3 Gigs are recognized.

After upgrading the kernel I found another problem: CPU overheating. I'm beginning the regret I chose Intel over AMD.
