I stumbled upon a new program to generate the charts. With license these charts can even be interactive. Have a look:

Old version:

New version (please note that I didn't go deep yet, it can look much better:
Sorry, you have to go to this link, can't show it here with current forum code.

One of the problems is, the charts can't be shown on other pages without the Flash object. I also have to buy a license but I think I can manage the $49 And I would have to recode all the charts.

The good thing is that (in my opinion) the charts are clearer. With the licensed version we can zoom into parts of the charts, drill down into pies and other goodies.

I have no problem with keeping the "old" charts online for showing them on other pages.

Check here to see whats possible.

The final word is up to you! Tell me!

Looks fine, and as I've got your bank account data to give you that money it won't hurt you.
Can't help with coding though, that will have to be your job.

For a first start it looks rather good, Willy.

For the 3D pie's it should be more from above and with the big parts starting at 4 o'clock anticlockwise (or 8 o'clock clockwise),
so that the smaller pie-parts (percentages) come more in front (better to see).

I agree, unfortunately I didn't find the control to change the starting angle yet. If I buy the license I get full technical support and I can ask for features so either they tell me how to do it (if I haven't found it by then) or I ask for the feature, shouldn't be too difficult.

Because...... ?

It's probably the same as with Javascript. People hate it, swear not to use it, yet with it website become so much more enjoyable and functional.

So, WHY?

Saying something is crap is fine by me, but not without explaining why.

3.03% of BOINCstats visitors has no flash (source: Google analytics), so the correct sentence would be "on most systems around Flash is available".

I did some Google searches which average around 84% of the systems having Flash.

The question is: because some people don't want to use it (=Flash/Javascript/Silverlight/a decent browser) should that mean that all sites should remain as they are, no innovation, even though most people do want to use it?

I think the new ones look much better and are more pleasing on the eyes...

There's just as much problem with scripts and other stuff as there is on Flash, so I say go for it!

I don't have a problem with the current graphs. I'm not a huge fan of flash, especially with intros, menus and ads (most of all) but I suppose there might be some useful features that it brings. However, I'm not sure what other useful information there needs to be on the credit divded among projects pie chart... Other than zooming down to the "other" section, which I generally don't care about much.

Either way, the charts could be cleaned up a little bit so that all of the projects with less than a percent or could be lumped into the "other" category, so it is easier to read.

I'll add the Flash charts in addition to the normal charts. BAM! members can set in their account which they want to see by default.

Non-BAM! members get Flash unless they don't have Flash or Javascript.

As part of the 3.03% I like your decision to give us the option. My reason for not using Flash is that it slows down browsing. If a site has a 'Skip Flash Intro' button, I *always* click it.
However, I may just install it because for the first time I can see a use for it.

Adobe patches critical hole in Flash Player, but PDF hole remains open

Adobe has released an update for its Flash Player that fixes a critical security vulnerability that could allow an attacker to remotely take control of a users system. The vulnerability can be found in versions 10.0.12.36 and earlier of the player. Version 10.0.15.3 for Linux is also vulnerable.
