Hello Rytis,

you introduced the feature "personal messages" to the forum code, I like it for me, most old-time BOINCstats users will like it back, but nobody, who signed up after it got obsolete with the move to the Boinc forum code, has allowed it to be implemented for him/her.

It's not necessary to have it for using BOINCstats, even for BAM! it's irrelevant, and as this concerns privacy, the feature should be at least be inactivateable, imho it should be workable only if willingly activated by the members.

Pm is a kind of internal mailing system, unsolicited mail is spam, so unsolicited pm is spam. If I opt in to get pm, it's fine. If I don't want to be bothered by pm it's fine as well. It has to be made choosable what the participant wants.

And this is something distinct from recieving newsletters from the project (or here from BOINCstats/BAM!), the choice has to made possible for pm only.

How nice of you people (it's not only you, nothing personal) to spam me about PMs wherever you know I look. Ugh. I got the message the first time.

It has already been implemented. The projects (including BOINCstats/BAM!) will have to update the code.

And it's not irrelevant for BOINCstats/BAM! use. Did you know that when BOINCstats moved from the commercial forum system (Invision Power Board) to BOINC forums, the lack of PMs was the biggest issue?

[edit] BTW, you could have sent a private message

It's been abused for spam already, spammers need to be named and shamed, imho banned from the forum, it's nothing for a pm but for the open forum.

As I said, I usually like the pms, I missed them here, and in the early days of BOINCstats nobody probably thought about sinking so deep as to spam for team recruitment.

Now that it's been done, some measures have to be taken to prevent it from happening again (and imho to punish the spammers, but that's nothing BOINC can do, only the project admins).

I'd like to show you this post @malaria, here the first spam is shown in plain daylight. What measures can be taken against such people?

Not that I can see. Only thing close is the email option for PMs.

Code:
Notify about new private messages by email Yes No

Nothing about "disable PMs"

Any user that is on your ignore list also can't send you PM's.

Thanks for the response.

It's not exactly what I was looking for. I don't want to ignore anyone, just don't want to get (or send) PMs. My feeling - if you can't say it in a public forum, you don't need to say it.
