I beg your indulgence. Somehow, probably my fault, two projects in my BOINCStats signature, WCG and GPUGRID, became separated from my other project in my “URL for user signature graphic”. The main body is in
https://boincstats.com/signature/-1/user/12966/sig.png

WCG and GPUGRID is in
https://boincstats.com/signature/-1/user/4099695/sig.png

These two should be recombined into one “URL for user signature graphic”.

This important to me because I am trying to promote BOINC to my 600 direct blog readers [ http://sciencesprings.wordpress.com ] and my 1100

Facebook Fan page readers [ http://facebook.com/sciencesprings ].

It is important that I make the best possible impression on my readers to try to encourage the readers into Citizen Science.

Thank you for any help in getting this done.

You probably have a SPLIT CPID
Read the two F.A.Q's. About SPLIT CPID & Why do I lose credit (copied verbatim below):
Why do I have duplicate/split accounts in the BOINC combined stats?

  • Use the exact same email address for every project.

  • Run at least one system with all projects, or one system with project A and B, and one system with project B and C. If there is a project that runs isolated from the other projects, its CPID with never line up.

When you join a new project, this project assigns you a new CPID. This CPID can either change to the same CPID as the other projects, or the other projects change (one by one) to the new CPID.

It is impossible for me to manually edit your accounts to create one account. It would take to much time too do this for everyone. Just wait a while, and your accounts will line up automatically.

One last thing, which is not too important, but nice for the stats: use the same username across projects, otherwise you get a username like 'Al Bundy @ SAH / Al Bundy @ Predictor / A. Bundy @ CPDN'.

Why do I lose credit in BOINC combined stats?
When you attach to a new project, or reattach to a projects that restarts after a 'break' your CPID for a project can change. It takes a while for all projects to line up again. During this time, you may loose some credit in the combined stats, and sometime all credit will go to a new account with a new CPID.

So, O.K.,DR WHO replied that GPUGRID and WCG wound up with different CPID's. I went into GPUGRID to try to alter the CPID back to the correct CPID.
I could not find a page to make this update.

You can not alter the CPID anywhere.

To summarize the previous information;
* MAKE SURE YOU ARE USING THE SAME EMAIL ADDRESS ACROSS ALL PROJECTS (Use the same one you have used in past if possible). This is the #1 cause of split CPID.

* Try to use SAME USER NAME ACROSS ALL PROJECTS.

* You have been away from BOINC for a while so it might take time, anywhere from one week to possibly never to synchronize.

If after about 4 weeks if it's not synced to your old CPID you can try to refresh/resync the CPID here at BoincStats. There's no guarantee that that will work either due to old projects that are not available anymore.

In the end, this does not matter much, as I have the the correct BOINCStats image as shown in my blog post:

*<strong>Citizen Science</strong>
For anyone interested in getting involved in real experimental science work there is an easy way to do it on your desktop computers. You can join in many experiments in universities and other institutions by donating unused computer time in project using the <a href="http://boinc.berkeley.edu/">BOINC [Berkeley Open Infrastructure for Network Computing</a> software from U.C.Berkeley. Visit <a href="http://boinc.berkeley.edu/">BOINC</a>; follow the instructions to put a BOINC client on your desktop machine [Windows, Linux, Mac]; look at the <a href="https://boinc.berkeley.edu/projects.php">projects </a>; attach to any project(s) you find interesting; set your "Computing preferences ["default" is the best option]; set up your
"Community preferences" and BOINC will do the rest. The project will download work units to your computer which your computer will process with no interruption of your normal work. When each work unit is finished BOINC will upload it to the project scientists and you will be rewarded with BOINC credits and receive new work units. If you have any problems, there are Message boards where you can get help.

Do NOT attach any of your computers to the Account Manager "Citizen Science". You will loose total control of what individual projects you connect to and give full control over BOINC to what "Citizen Science" decides to attach to and you won't earn the credit for work done to your stats, they will.

Just continue to follow the instructions from my previous post - SAME EMAIL & SAME USER NAME across all project to sync your stats.

Thanks. I am not attaching anything to that blog post. I simply wanted to show you the correct original image.

I appreciate your help.

One more thing. I need to get rid of Twitter in my signature and have not been able to find the page where one does the signature. Can you help me with that?

Thanks.

Here's the link to change your signature.
* Once there, click on the red box that says 'Edit'.
" Go to the section Signature. Click mouse in the rectangular box with the three dots to the right of the word.
* Once there you will see your current signature on top part with a edit box right below.
* You can add or remove anything there by editing what's in the box. To save change click red X Box at top right.
* This will bring you back to the profile page where you need to click on the red box labeled SAVE CHANGES to finish saving.

Nope, it did not work.

But I never saw the three dots after signature. I just got a box with the signature elements and I deleted the Twitter line and saved. So, maybe I jumped the gun. Bu there were no three dots.

Whatever, thanks for your help.

O.K., I finally saw the three dots. If you think you are working with an idiot you are right.

Oh, WoW!! I really appreciate your following of the blog. I have about 600 people who subscribe directly via email or the RSS feed. The Facebook Fan page has about 1100 followers [I am not a fan of Facebook having read "An Ugly Truth-Inside Facebook's Battle For Domination" by Sheera Frankel and Cecilia Kang (both from the "New York Times&quot; and "The Facebook Effect-The Inside Story of the Company That Is Connecting The World" by David Kirkpatrick from "Fortune Magazine", and watching the video "The Social Dilemma" (Not "The Social Network" the movie, which I own and love). But if you have viewed both the blog and the Facebook Fan page, you can see that I produce a shortened but informative version of the full blog post. [This is a lot of work.] I am stuck with Facebook because "Google+" died and "Twitter" has always been-to my mind-a disaster for science research no matter how well I culled the sites for universities and institutions I cover.

I am not any kind of a scientist, so as you can tell I write nothing. I get everything from institutional listservs (M.I.T., Harvard, all UC schools, U Washington, ALMA, Keck, etc) or RSS (ETH Zurich, EPFL, Oxford, Cambridge, McGill, UNSW, Etc). I have direct links for CERN, ALMA and CfA, I just produce .html templates for each institution and also some .html image templates for text and images I will use repeatedly. I have built over 1700 templates. I also answer no science questions because I am not qualified (even though I have learned a lot). I always refer any inquirers with science questions back to the scientists and provide an email address if I have it or can find it.

Thanks for your help, thanks for reading the blog, and I wish you a great holiday season and a Healthy and Safe 2024.

My new installation (desktop only, no laptops) of BOINC is doing some good work for many of the projects to which I have attached.
