Two questions really:

2. Climate prediction was set to a minimal resource share. It instead runs almost all the time. Why? Does it decide for itself how important it is and ignore what I entered?

3. Climate prediction is unusually unstable. It seems to have a severe memory leak since the longer it runs the more likely my computer is to complain about lack of resources or even lock up altogether. Therefore I deleted it completely from my task list and added some new ones. And yet, even though the new tasks have shown up, Climate prediction won't go away.

This thing is like a damn barnacle. How do I ditch it?

You mean this part?

"After I've attached to BAM I can't detach from any of the projects. The client says "This project must be detached using the account manager web site". What should I do in order to detach my host from this project?

You must log in to your BAM account, then go to the corresponding detailed host page, uncheck the checkbox next to the project and press "Set". Then update your client from BAM."

I wouldn't be asking in the forum if I hadn't already done that. Climate Prediction is GONE from my project list entirely. It is GONE from the lists for each of my hosts. And yet it still appears in BOINC manager on my local host and consumes all the CPU cycles.

The client updated to the extent that it now is working on the new projects I subscribed to. But it did not update to get rid of Climate Prediction. Why would it add the projects I added but not delete the projects I deleted?

RTFPost: "Therefore I deleted it completely from my task list and added some new ones. And yet, even though the new tasks have shown up, Climate prediction won't go away." Pretty clearly I did update my client if it added the new projects so directing me to the command to update my client is less than helpful.

The CORRECT answer is:

go to c:\ProgramData\Boinc

and delete all files with "ClimatePrediction" in the name. Then go to the subfolder projects and delete the Climate Prediction subfolder.

Find that in the FM.
