When ever I try to use this function I can only create only one host. When I try to create a second one and hit SET, the next page will show the host created first.

Am I doing something wrong? What kind of data do I have to type to the Host name input box? Is it the Netbios or DNS-Name used in the projects like xpws-1.aschy.de? Or do I have to enter a Host ID created by BS? Host ID wouldn't be a good idea cause there are some duplicate hosts under my account that I'm unable to merge. I don't want to delete them cause they all have credits.

Thanks

Have you read this?
I'm not an expert either, but you should do the following:

    * Create a host by using the "Prepare new host"-function according the following rules: The hostname must be unique and the entered hostname is identical to the actual system name (used when installing Boinc). Choose which projects will be run by this new host.
    * On the actual new system: install Boinc, don't install any projects, but set BAM as the projectmanager. Look here for instructions.
    * When the new system synchronizes for the first time with BAM you will see that all choosen projects will be installed.

Deleting hosts will not loose credits, it just deletes them from the hostlist. Use the projectwebsites for merging the newest host with the older duplicate one(s). After a few days the stats will sync.

Yes, I saw this.
That's not my problem. Maybe I misunderstood the funktion itself. I thought that I could create all hosts with it BEFORE or WITHOUT attaching the client to BAM using a Boinc Manager.

I know that deleting hosts won't delete any credits, but when I delete duplicate hosts with credits, the total of the remaining clients will count less than the credits on the My Account page. Or are the missing credits added to the remaining host after a given sync period?

There are some hosts that have been created with different client versions and some projects, maybe due to BOINC server version, that won't let you merge hosts with different client versions. Sometimes it is possibel to merge hosts on creation time, but after a week or two, it's not. I can't merge all hosts on creation time cause e.g. at einstein if you merge some hosts before they have returned their WUs, the next time the resulting host contacts the server, it will resend all "missing" WUs to the client. I have to prepare "preloaded" clients and carry them to my office cause I am allowed to run BOINC on my testmachines there, but I can't and am not allowed to return the results over the firewall. So if they are done, I carry the clients back home and return them from there.

The original problem

coud be a cookie-problem. Have you tried to close your browser after creating a new host and re-open the site for creating another new host?

You should indeed only try merging hosts when they don't have wu's running.
Try searching this forum for 'merge host' , you're not the first and probably not the last person with this problem.
Maybe some "real expert" could tell you more on the subject of server-versions of Boinc.
On the other hand you should not be too concerned about the duplicate hosts, crunching itself is not hampered by it.

Could you or XJR-Maniac please make an official bugreport (follow this rules) in the BAM! Bug Report-forum, i'm sure Willy or another techie will pick it up.

As a new user, the first thing I did is to read all the FAQ's, any helpful suggestions as to how to set up the BAM menu. I am afraid that when you choose from the the BAM Menu to include all your hosts, it is not very intuitive as I you can enter only one host.

I am not sure what I am missing if any, but at this stage I can only conclude that this is a programme error.

Probably due to a lack of understanding on my part, I really don't see any need for this function except for cases like Maniac's where the host can't talk to BAM.

As long as you have "Attach new host by default" set on your BAM "Resources" page then all you do is install BOINC and then TOOLS>ATTACH TO ACCOUNT MANAGER>bam.boincstats.com.

Poof, it attaches that host to your selected projects.
