Any guess why this occurred ?

The project was atacched via boincview 1.2.5 that presented
a list of my hosts to attach the project via bam

Selected the host, entered e-mail / password
files started to downloading ...
and sudenly a project / reset / detach ( as above )

Looks like typical problem for newbies: project attached "outside" BAM (i.e. via classic Attach command in CMD of BOINC manager GUI) get dettached upon BAM contact.
You need to (de)attach to BOINC project eighter via BAM, or without BAM at all on each particular host, means don't mix it.

Thus, is need to attach some projects via BAM
and other projects via via classic Attach command in CMD of BOINC manager


With that multitude of projects, is ease to someone make a mistake
about IF that particular project is to be attached via BAM or otherwise

A suggestion to protect users from making such mistakes

BAM listing the projects and status of each host (as it already does)

and having a check box that needs to be marked to attach

and having a check box that needs to be marked to detach

Once the action performed, (either attach -or- detach), that check box(es) clears

So, no auto-detach will be performed anymore -


*after all I did not signed for that feature "auto-detach"
ps: I do know that do exist a feature "auto-attach"
but, I didnt signed for it either

Well, that's part of the problem I think. This way a new host will not attach to anything (BAM! has to have a default set of rules). BUT: it should not detach also because BAM! will recognize it's a new host, and tries to detect the attached projects.

One problem I can think of:
1: host is attached to BAM!
2: host is detached from BAM! for some reason
3: host is attached to one or more projects
4: host is re-attached to BAM!
5: BAM! will recognize host (by it's CPID or ID)
6: BAM! will detach projects from 3 (because it's not a new host for BAM!)

I had run 4 sets WUs 3 with the following error (same as above, the 4th also detached):

I was referred to this thread and thought I had found the problem to be I created the account at their website instead of through BAM. (BAM was showing account creation disabled at the time.) I had the same problem with Tanpaku.
Anyway, I thought I had gotten it straightened out but after I downloaded another set of WUs, I got the same error above. Do I now need to wait 24 hrs.? I can't figure it out so if you could help, I would appreciate it. jvsturm (Jim)

P.S. Because I have 56k dial-up, I usually run a few WUs, then upload them, run a few more, etc.

The problem is that you didn't check the 'Attach' box for MCP at the host. Do that here.

Hosts are linked (to the page above) on the Host list (which is on its turn linked from the BAM menu).

I (as a newbie, please be patient) want to make sure I have this right. There is no place on the BAM site to get to the host link of projects except through the address you provided to me (which will have a different host id for every person.)

Also, do I now reattach to the malaria control site from the BOINC manager page and download the data once more? As I said before, at 56k it takes a while so I would like to make sure I understand this time and don't run into the same error again. jvsturm (Jim)

Nobody else can go to the page with your hosts or to the host pages themselves.

You have to set MCP to attach on the host page, then synchronize the client (your host) with BAM!. This will tell the client to download and start MCP.

I know this is going to sound stupid, BUT, how can I set MCP to attach on the host page if I can't go to the host pages. If by host page you mean attach through the BOINC manager, that is where I seem to run into problems. Files immediately start to download before I can synchronize the BOINC manager with the Tools tab.

Let's say I want to start with a whole new program that I haven't had any contact with (say the Rectilinear Crossing No.)

1. I would go to Select Project and check the Create Account circle.

2. I would then go to the Resources and check Attach by Default and assign a resource share.

3. I could then go to the Boinc Manager and attach the project under the Advanced tab, where I would enter my email and password.

4. I would then synchronize by selecting the choice under the Tools tab.

Am I close? or just so screwed up, I should be happy with what I have?

You have two possibilities, depending on the project and it's comptibility with BAM:

1. It works with BAM:
Go to the project sign-up page here @BAM ( http://de.boincstats.com/bam/project_sign_up.php )
Sign up with the project
Then:
Go to your host page here @BAM ( http://de.boincstats.com/bam/host_list.php )
Select your host
Click the box with the project and save it
Then:
Go to BOINC (on your puter) and let it syncronize with BAM or simply wait 'til next automated contact, don't attach it!


2. It doesn't work with BAM:
Go to project and create account and attach in BOINC
or
Simply join via BOINC with the create account option

I think at last I got it! One stumbling block I was having was when I clicked on host list and all that came up was a single line. It took a few (or more) tries before I realized I needed to click on that single line to bring up the list of programs.
I had to change the 'de' in the addresses you gave me to 'www' because I can't read German.
Anyway, I then went to the BOINC manager and clicked on the synchronize with BAM stats (or something similar). Files began downloading right away. I did not attach on the BOINC manager page. Hopefully all will run well now.
