Previous use of BOINC was using World Community Grid as manager - at least I think that is what it is telling me. On my home machine, I've got BAM as the manager, no problem. This one, although stats show up in boincstats, and it appears that BAM prefs are being used, when I try to attach to BAM as manager says:

Account manager error: 0 Unable to add host to BAM!. Please try again later.

- has been doing this for several days.

When I'm on the web in boincstats, the "Host list" shows only one host, and if I try to add one, although I give it a new name, it gives me a screen with the home machine name.

Any ideas?

I think this issue has shown up in this thread and the General BAM thread in various ways. Ultimately, I let it wind down and finish all tasks, then completely deleted BOINC on the host in question, and reinstalled it. I suspect this was some sort of holdover from WCG, but I can't be sure. Since I had some long tasks from SETI and climateprediction, it took a while to let them run out, but in the end this worked.

I was trying to add hosts that I knew were running, but didn't show up in the host list. After removing WCG and running BAM from the start of the BOINC installation, it all seems good.

To the BOINC manager, WCG is just another project... All of the "project management" tasks are handled by their server.

Preferences you set in BAM! are saved to each of your projects. When your client connects, they get the preferences from the projects and not BAM! itself. That's why they show up on all your clients, even the ones that aren't using BAM!.

How many times did you try attaching to BAM!? That error message sure sounds like a connection problem to me.

WCG can also act as an account manager, and I think that was how it was first set up. I've gotten rid of that, and now have BOINC and BAM.

However, the same host that I couldn't add, now reports results (according to the messages tab list), and otherwise behaves just fine, but doesn't now remove the reported task from the task list. When I do a manual update for the project, it then removes it from the task list. In one case I received a message that the result had already been reported, but in most cases, that message doesn't show up.

Beats me, but it is getting new work and reporting results.

You have to differ between "uploading" and "reporting"!

If a task has been computed, it is uploaded immediately, but the reporting (to the database) is done up to 24 hours later, to minimize strain on the database by sampling several results.

I was not aware that WCG had project manager capability... Are you using the version of the BOINC client that is distributed by WCG? I've never tried that one myself... That could explain the odd behavior when switching to BAM!.

Also not sure about manually "adding" clients through the BAM! website. I'm familiar with the link, but I'm not sure of its functionality. A new host should show up in the list as soon as it's synchronized with BAM!.
