I agree with Sid2 you can not compete with free. Also from a mathematical point of view which I assume is true for many many other STEM disciplines is as long as we still have some conjectures, very strong hunches, or what ever you want to call it, the longer these things go unsolved the more likely someone is going to come along with the programming ability to create a program which checks the hunch. Consider Collatz conjecture, or the Harmonious Trees Conjecture ( sub project of Yoyo), the longer these go unproved, and without finding a counter example, the bigger and bigger numbers or trees will need to be considered. As such you would want to be able to use all resources available to you, and that includes the Boinc Crunchers.
