Built a computer about a year and a half ago for a christmas present for my wifes gaming habit with an E6400 in it. I've just ordered a Q6700 (yes the board will take it, I payed waaaay to much for that board when I built it.) and an extra 2GB of RAM for it (same model RAM that's in it now)

My question is, can I just drop these in and config the BIOS, or will Windows need to be reinstalled? I haven't tried to upgrade a C2D to C2Q yet, and wasn't sure if they are similar enough. I know the RAM will be fine, but the chip worries me. Anyone that has done similar, I would appreciate a few words about your experience.

Thanks in advance.

Just install it, start Windows, and enjoy the extra cores.

I was really hoping it would be that easy

That alone makes the original price of that machine almost justifiable, lol

Thanks Willy!
