the einstien servers crashed over the holiday weekend. People with short queue's ran out. People with unattended boxes are potentially still working off extended don't retry contacting the server periods.

RE Proteins / Rosetta -- Why is there more than 1 project regarding protein folding? Can they not get together and create one big project?

@Riann: its been discussed many times before. Each project has different aims; different funding; they do it in different ways using different code and optimisations. Just because they all 'protein folding' does not mean they all do the same thing.

@ Riannstrydom: they are using different techniques/ methods to predict the proteins. Rosetta, predictor, WCG, proteins SIMAP and docking are all working on proteins

And maybe they predict different things about proteins. no idea

@ student: E@H has only a few months left for WU's. I wonder if some are starting to rotate off the project [?]

about the protein projects: predictor is on hiatus, proteins@home and docking@home are very early alpha and don't have account creation enabled for now, tanpaku is also new and testing their methods

part2 wcg (hpf2) is folding the human protognome and creating a database of it i think, wcg (fgc) is creating a database of similarities between gene sequences (those 2 projects are subprojects of wcg)

But would everyone agree that if they all got together and had one big project doing their different thing, they would all share in all the members and thus get more done. . .

part3 simap is creating a database of similarities between proteins (only limited work available) and rosetta is folding, docking and designing proteins and already fighting diseases at this stage and participating in prediction competitions

yes,i agree if they would merge there would be much more done, but on the other side people will still leave because they might get a bunch of test WUs for new applications and not directly fight diseases or creating a big database, that's my opinion

Phili, some of the projects have options whereby the users decide whether or not they want to have test units sent to them or not. . . I still think it's a viable option to have those guys getting together

I agree, they share. But they are doing it half-ar$ed. . . Why not have one big project with different sub-projects and get all the users together to work on that. . . Better way of working I reckon!
