@gordon95: BOINC reccomend reducing CPU-time before numbers of CPU. Here is how to do...

@gordon95: Here you find "Use most XXX% of CPU time". Remember to "save" after ajustments.

@gordon95. 1/2: I live in south Greece. we had 45°c. heat wave last summer. Had to put a custom water loop keep CPU cold.

@gordon95. 2/2: My W.loop can push water temp down to only 2.5°c. over ambient while running Turbo boost up to 146W.

@gordon95 but i would still recommend you to lover the "CPU time usage" in Boinc settings if you have temp problems.

@gordon95 or Undervolt your CPU a little. You can achieve only slightly lover performance with less voltage and heat

@oz1dwf and @Dennis Menace... (1/2) Thanks for the suggestions. Setting the CPU time to 75% and using 75% of the cores

(2/2) has dropped temps from 79 to 68. Still, I pause all BOINC tasks during 1200 to 1800 hours.

@gordon95: 1/2 Depending on what kind of CPU you have you should know that the new Ryzen run a LOT hotter than the old CPUs.

@gordon95: My Ryzen 9 3900X is running at 75°c. right now and have done so for years. last summer it went to 82°c. AMD is -

@gordon95: AMD is recommending to keep it under 95°c. as a guide roule. But they can handle running up to 105°c.

@gordon95: with the stock cooler it was running 85°c. at 20°c. ambient. of cause the cooler you can keep CPU the better

@Stacie. Your chance to overtake. It is too hot to torture the poor machine. All CPU tasks stopped. GPU not at battle speed.

@gordon95. My X220 is running very hot. I've lowered temp by keeping CPU 100% but CPU time down as low as 45%.

gordon95: Always better to let the cores work equal but reduce time. This allows the CPU to distribute the heat more equally.

Have any of you ever taken an air blower to your systems cooling fins? must be having a family of dust bunnies.

@KAMasud.. yes, did that at the start of this month. Changed the thermal pastes on my CPU and GPU too.

oz1dwf and Dennis Menace... (1/2) I have a ryzen 3 1300x running on an a320m chipset. I kept experimenting

(2/2) with cores and cpu time. Boinc running on all 4 cores for 50% time. Temps around 75 with stock cooler (Ambient 36).

@gordon95: The ryzen 3 1300x operates idle at 32-38°C and max 95°C. You should be in the clear.

@KAMasud: Aye. But the old Lenovo X'series are keen, running at high temp, why I did reduce CPU time.

Install the free TThrottle program. It works with BOINC to set CPU/GPU thermal limit and auto throttle the utilization %
