O/C is ok with me. I probably wouldn't push that too far, though. Looking at newer processors it seems a lot are locked...

@JCMarsh: Some of my rigs use 2600 & 2600k, yes they rock. But I love the AMD Phenom II 1090 6-core on my main PC, for ~$219!

So it seems like multiple GPUs is more important than CPU -- recommendation on a motherboard with 4 useable pcie x16 slots?

LGA 2011 is best for four 2 slot cards, PCI-E 3.0. GIGABYTE GA-X79. LGA 1155 does have MSI Big Bang P67 Marshal.

x16, (x16/x8), x8, x8 with 4 GPU is the best you can hope for, even with LGA 2011.

It doesn't matter what the PCI Slot is for BOINC, runs just as fast whether it's a 16x or 1x Slot, either work for me.
