New project, same procedure.

URL: http://boinc.iaik.tugraz.at/sha1_coll_search/

From their first news and according to the server-status they have some WUs for Linux and Windows now!
Unfortunately the forum board is not open yet...

I've decided it's a waste of my computer power to crunch for a project that can't/won't enable the boards.

How do they expect to get find out what's going wrong when something crashes?

I have no problem with alpha testing. But at least let me tell you what works and doesn't work.

The lack of a message board also makes me wonder what that project might be hiding. I'm not saying this project is up to anything nefarious. But it does make me think.

Hm, the copyright at the bottom (and the URL of course) says it's a project from TU Graz (Graz University of Technology), which is also running RCN, so at least I don't expect them to do any mischief.

Maybe the guys don't know how to enable the forum or simply forgot it? *scratches head*

EDIT: There's also a link on their homepage to Graz University of Technology with further links to:

* Website of the department
* Description of the research carried out

I've exchanged email with someone on the project. I suggested three things:

1) a link to contact the admin

2) a server status link

3) turning on message boards.

He responded with "You're right, we'll work on that."

I'm not sure which "that" he was referring to, but I'll take any of them.

Oh, nice!!

Funny enough I've just written an email to someone there as well a couple of minutes before... now they're getting spammed with "Please open the boards" requests. *LOL*

Yeah, stats would be cool. But we should ask them first if we are allowed to use them in this early stage.

EDIT: Stats export seems to work already! :-)

If stats are exported, isn't that implicit permission for stat sites to publish them?

I guess so but asking is better.
And we didn't really obey the rules of posting a new project this time (some projects don't want their URL to be posted at a very early stage). So for keeping that URL as a secret it's too late anyway.

Yep. Here is the short description. The links work for me.

If stats are exported, isn't that implicit permission for stat sites to publish them?

That is not good enough for respectable stats sites. They will want explicit permission to publish stats.

Sorry for my bad English.
I also contacted the Team (MR. Rechberger) and he answered me that there is no Problem for them to give permission to publish there stats on BoincStats. The problem seams to be they jet don't know how to.
Here the Answer in German:

Hallo Uwe,
ja, Einverständnis ist von unserer Seite gegeben.

Hier meine Frage: Welchen Betreibern wie mitteilen? Habe mich mit den
BOINC Statistikseiten noch nicht näher beschäftigt.

Danke für die Unterstützung,
Christian Rechberger

I've been gathering stats for SHA-1 for a few weeks now. Reading his reply I guess it's ok to release the stats. Will do so tonight.
Please do not PM, IM or email me for support (they will go unread/ignored). Use the forum for support.
