As everyone might have heard DNETC@HOME is SHUTTING DOWN for a 3rd time

AND THE OFFICAL REASON IS

FROM OxyOneProject

"Message 4297 - Posted: 21 Oct 2011 | 19:11:54 UTC

The project is boring. I'm tired of it."

straight from the horses mouth this time and to check it out for yourself http://dnetc.net/forum_thread.php?id=453

kind of close minded though, you think they'd hand it over to someone else who isn't bored of it im just glad there not running something important like WCG

RIP DNETC@HOME

Will this be the final time or what? They shut down like 3 times or more, yet they're still around as of this writing.

Are these guys even serious about the science? I mean how do I know I don't waste my cycles on them for nothing? Where does the result go to when these guys get "bored"?

Seems that that is a common problem with some GPU projects.

DNETC just take tasks from a non-BOINC project, make them available to us via BOINC, then report the results of the tasks back to the non-BOINC project. Moo! does the same. So nothing was wasted in crunching for DNETC. The results got reported back just fine.

To be honest i think something happening behind closed doors, been as we never heard an official ending to the servers being taken by the Police.
or maybe there doing it for more money to get people to donate
but if they are just "bored" of doing it youd think theyd hand the project over to someone else. suppose not every website or Project can have someone as awesome as Willy in them

i give it 6 months if there not back up by then then there gone for good (thats if they even close down)

For this project MOO is also the same thing (wrapper around distributed.net RC5-72 client) so really there is no need for them to come back. If you are interested in it. If you go to MOO they will also upload results to distributed.net In the dnetc forums the project owner spoke highly of MOOs wrapper which gives me the impress he is pushing people in that direction.

Good Riddance.

To think I wasted so many resources on this poorly run project.
