Hi Willy

I hope this is the right section to post this. Magnetism@home has a new URL:

Magnetism at home: The correct URL is http://fti.dn.ua/magnetism/

The old one stills works (for now), but you get this message in Boinc.
Oh, and they actually have work again!

Regards
Rod

That's too bad because changing the URL in BAM! means the project will detach on the old URL and re-attach on the new URL, meaning all work is lost.

Do I understand correctly that if you make the change, then my host will detach and re-attach on the next BAM! update, even if there are WUs in progress?
If so, maybe you could set a date here for when you will do the change. That would give us a chance to set No New Work, finish any WUs and be ready for the re-attach.

In my case, I only have 1 WU in progress with 4 hours to go, so I don't mind too much if I lose it, but I am certainly NOT speaking for others!
Sooner or later the change will need to be done, so do whatever you need to do.

Thanks
Rod

Is there a possibility to give the "Delayed detach" first and only a day later the new address?
That way some WUs will be lost nevertheless, but probably a lot less.

Rewrote parts of the BAM! RPC, projects should now first complete work before detaching.

I set up Magnetism to change URL, I'm curious to the result so please post the relevant manager messages.

I see my host is detached at the moment, but I may have set 'delayed detach' myself - I was tired! So I will attach again using BAM! Hopefully someone else can give more useful feedback!

It appears to have worked as designed. All my attached host went to NNW and delayed detach. Here are the messages from one that happened to have no work left.

5/15/2010 7:32:02 AM Account manager: Delayed detach from Magnetism@home, project changed URL. After detaching project will reattach with new URL on next RPC!

5/15/2010 7:32:06 AM Magnetism at home Resetting project
5/15/2010 7:32:07 AM Magnetism at home Detaching from project

5/15/2010 11:32:05 AM Attaching to http://fti.dn.ua/magnetism/

Well done, Willy!
So in future this would appear to be the way to go. In fact, we don't have to do anything - we can leave it to you to make the necessary change.
Thanks
Rod

It worked great. My hosts went to NNW, finished up, and then detached. Good job.

Then I reattached them via BAM, and got some work. So far so good.

But now when I try to set it to NNW via BAM, it does not pass that on to the hosts. It is like I never set NNW.

Don't know how that happened (yet) but a solution that might work is te set BAM! to allow work, then after one host/BAM! update set it to NNW again. The same problem occurs when people micro-manage their host and set a project to NW/NNW locally. It should not apply to your situation though, since as far as the host knows the new URL is a completely new project.
