Got two email from the Zivis project today, and unfortunately the online translators don't do a good job on it. Maybe somebody who can read Spanish can shed some light on the content of them.

Email 1:

Email 2:

The science application of Zivis has reached the count of 200000 trajectories for D1, which was the last milestone agreed with our researchers. There are only a few thousand workunits pending and they will finish sometime during the weekend. Some post-analysis and publications will appear in http://zaragozaciudad.net/zivis/ and http://cmisapp.zaragoza.es/ciudad/conocimiento/zivis/resultados.htm

A message from the project director follows.

============================================

Pronto volveremos a encontrarnos.

Alfonso Tarancon Lafita

Director de Zivis

What I get from it is that the project is coming to an end, is that correct?
Please do not PM, IM or email me for support (they will go unread/ignored). Use the forum for support.

I sent you an alternative translation through email. Which as far as I saw said it had ended already.

Only for those who downloaded Zivis for Windows.

For those who wish to uninstall. Successful running or unistalling depends on whether the BOINC.msi file is still there or not. This file will have been in the installation folder in the registry. If it's still there, it should be easy to uninstall through Start-Settings-Control Panel-Add or Remove Programs.

If you have already deleted this file, in order to be able to uninstall BOINC you will first need to download the download the BOINC.msi file from

http://zivis.bifi.unizar.es/misc/BOINC.msi

This file should be downloaded to somewhere it can be found again (preferably to a folder called Zivis in the registry).

My note. I find the last sentence quite astonishing. If these instructions are to be posted anywhere and used by crunchers to uninstall boinc, I think the last sentence should be replaced with something more sensible and practical by, for example, Jorden.

Once the BOINC.msi file has been downloaded again, BOINC can be uninstalled as described above through 'Add/Remove Programs' in the Control panel. We recommend uninstalling BOINC because both BOINC and Zivis will probably soon be releasing new versions. The new versions will be needed when Zivis enters its next phase.

My note. This clearly does not apply to crunchers running other projects, who should be able to simply detach from Zivis for the time being. They can also upgrade their version of BOINC without having to uninstall BOINC first. So these instructions are only good for people who only want to crunch Zivis.

Uninstalling BOINC, in the Windows systems we have tested, deletes the executables but does not delete the configuration folders and files. So if a cruncher downloads a new version of BOINC, the identifier My note. Do they mean the CPID?and password wil remain. We do not guarantee that this will not change in the future. So if you download a new version of boinc from http://boinc.berkeley.edu/ you may need to reattach to the Zivis project http://zivis.bifi.unizar.es using this option in boinc manager.

If you also wish to delete the files containing the project identifier and password, the simplest method is as follows. After uninstalling the executables and menus through Control Panel, carry out a search of your hard disk for all files containing the name 'BOINC'. You will probably find one in 'Program archives'.

Finally, if you need help with uninstalling, email us at *****@unizar.es

The least I can do is to express the pride of the whole team in the great success we have achieved. Our experiment achieved much more than we had ever hoped for in terms of the number of participants, scientific results and its impact on television and in the press.

A great success for everyone concerned. I should mention those who gave financial support, team members who worked 12 hour days including Saturdays and Sundays, and you too who left your computers running for hours and hours to achieve results beyond anyone's expectations.

The Zivis project is now well-known not only in Spain but also in part of Europe. This is a milestone in computing for citizens.

We will now take a rest. We can uninstall Boinc and rest. Enjoy the rest while it lasts because we will soon be back in even greater force to request your help again.

Again, many many thanks. We will soon meet again.

Very best wishes from the whole Zivis team.

I left my translation almost finished to go and do something else. When I returned, I found Jorden had already posted. I thought I might as well post mine anyway as I had almost completed it.

If boinc crunchers are to rely on the first email for instructions about how to uninstall it all one day, I suggest an extra prayer to La Virgen del Pilar who is particularly venerated in Zaragoza.
