Asteroids@home has now been down for a month. The only things working is Server Status the home page with this explanation:

Dear friends, as many of you already noticed, the Asteroids@home project has been down for several days now. The reason is an unexpected hardware failure of one of our servers. This machine has served us devotedly non-stop for many years, but its life came to the end. Now we need to replace it and it will take some time. Covid-19 situation makes things even more difficult as there are so many ongoing restrictions and administrative obstacles that we cannot be sure of any plans or schedules for the next few months to come. We will still try to do our best to find some temporary solution but we cannot guarantee any date. And we will still need to find a final and stable solution after that. Thank you for your patience.

We hope to be back soon! The Asteroids@home team.

Does anyone have additional information they can provide on this project?

The project is being restored now. Most web pages work, the forums are live and communication with the BOINC Client is now possible:

The project appears to be completely functional now. My completed projects were unloaded and new projects downloaded. No explanations from the admins yet! Now I will wait and see if I get credit for the 334 completed projects that been in limbo for so long.

Yes web site may be back, but the sites SECURITY certificate is STILL EXPIRED.
Valid From: Tuesday, January 23, 2018 18:00:00
Valid To: Thursday, January 28, 2021 06:00:00

Asteriods need a NEW & VALID CERTIFICATE in order for BOINC to download any work.
I see that users have already complained about it at the projects forum pages asking what is taking so long.

Looks like a database error. There are warnings splattered all over their front page.

Yes, the project is down again with no explanation from Admin!.
Unfortunately, this project seems to be using the Mushroom Theory of Management!
For those who don't know about the Mushroom Theory of Management, it describes a style of management where employees or users (like mushrooms) are kept in the dark and periodically given a load of manure.

I am very sorry to inform you that the project is temporarily down. The database system was still running on a temporary hardware solution which failed a few days ago and the hardware is dead. We still don't have the planned new server and due to holidays and other circumstances we can't hurry anything up. New server should be available on Septemember or October so project will propably be down until then. We don't have any sufficient hardware for other temporary solution and I also think that the best solution is to get the project online when it is finally on a new stable hardware because I know that the project outages every few weeks are very frustrating.

I will post here later any new information when available.

Thank you Radim Vanco (FoxKyong) for at least letting us know the bad news. Hopefully all will work out well in the shortest possible time. We also hope we will all get work units credit for all the units that are "Ready to Report" once Asteroids is up and running again.

Is it time to retire Asteroids? No work for about six months. No website. No communication from the project since the post shown below.

I second the motion to retire Asteroids until it's returned to production. That's if it ever really returns.

I will join Dataman and Dr Who Fan in shutting down this project. It is time to play taps for Asteriods@home.

I am getting very tired of asteroids@home. No apparent fix and no explanation of what is happening and if and when we can expect this program to again run. I have over 200 completed tasks for this project which required my computer time, my time, and my electricity! If I don't receive credit for these tasks shortly, I will delete them (why waste my computer storage on a dead project) and never again support asteroids@home and will recommend others follow my led.

Asteroids@home, the end is near!

Happy Easter to all. Well I finally gave up totally on Asteroids@home and deleted my 200 plus work units that I had processed. If somehow Asteroids@home comes back to life, I will NOT EVER process for them again. I am completely burned out on their complete lack of consideration of their users!!

Does anyone have contact information for the Asteroids admin to check in and see if there is a realistic shot at the project ever returning? Like Bharritt, I've been holding onto a large cache of completed tasks, but am equally fed up with the lack of communication.

Below is the only contact I know of, and they are not much help. So I completely gave up on Asteroids@home and Radim Vanco.

In the last few days I have calculated a few Asteroids@home WUs. Seems to be alive, at least a little bit ;-)
