Hi all,

In order to connect to the internet, all connections should use a automatic proxy configuration file (pac). The network settings on my macbook are ok, since I can post this message :-)

I had to reinstall the boinc manager and restore the connection to BAM! Never used the setup with proxies before. I'm at work now (for two months). At home I do not use any proxies.

Now, from within boinc, I try to add BAM! as manager. After staring a while a the pop-up screen (please wait...), I get: "Updating account manager failed. Try again later".

Question: My network settings are fine. Should boinc be able to make connection with the internet?

I changed the settings in 'Project management-Options' to use a proxy. I entered the same url as used in my networksettings (so, including the suffix proxy.pac).
Again I try to add BAM! and it fails too, stating: "The url to the boinc manager is wrong." Which of course isn't the case. I checked.

Question: How do I setup automatic proxy config whitin boinc?

Hope someone can help.

My (wild) guess is that you are behind a firewall at your work or that the work-proxy is very strict. You should check with your network administrator if the firewall- (or proxy-) rules allow BOINC- and BAM!-traffic.

That's my thought too, TeeVeeEss. Now I'm f'cked, because a) the administrator will never allow boinc too pass through the ships' firewall (WhatssApp is already a big hurdle) and b) if I do not connect within five days, my project contributions will be scrapped by boincstats :-((

I assume you are on board for a 2 month trip? That explains the Whatsapp-block, the ship has probably an expensive satellite internet connection
You can use your own smartphone (tethering) for connecting once a day, that should be enough for the work units on your Mac. Mind you, take first a good look at the costs !

You guessed it right, TeVeeEss! You just won yourself a refrigerator
I work on a ship and yes, the costs are ridiculous for the owner.

Your suggestion was absolutely smart! It worked straight away! Thanks a million!!!!
