Plenty midges on the mainland, especially to the west. Lifesystems Expedition is a great repellant. Plus UV insect zappers!

I try disabling my ad blocker here regularly, alas, website still "detects" an adblocker.
My guess is, either the detection code that BOINCstats uses does not work correctly, or ads are blocked by tracking prevention, which implies that ads you serve are malicious (in terms of privacy), so, while I understand your frustration with freeloaders, maybe don't blame it all on us
